How it started
Most sustainable products are either overpriced or impractical.
We started GrainRoots because the eco-essentials shelf in India was missing something obvious — affordable, well-made, plastic-free swaps for daily life. Not luxury. Not impractical. Just useful.
Most bamboo brushes in the market are imported, marked up two or three times, and packaged with the same plastic they're supposed to replace. We wanted to fix that.
So we sourced bamboo from Assam. Worked with Indian artisans for hand-finishing. Skipped the plastic packaging entirely. Priced it like the plastic alternative — because eco shouldn't cost extra.

Eco shouldn't cost extra. Our bamboo toothbrush starts at Rs. 79 — close to what the supermarket plastic one costs. No luxury markup, no greenwash tax.

Sourced from Assam bamboo forests. Hand-finished by Indian artisans. Shipped from our workshop in Malappuram, Kerala. Indian-owned and Indian-made.

Our bamboo comes from sustainably managed forests in Assam — fast-growing, locally cultivated, harvested without harming the parent plant. The same patches regrow within 3 to 5 years.
Each handle is hand-finished by Indian craftspeople. No factory mass-production line, no glossy coatings, no greenwashing. What you get is what we describe: bamboo, sanded smooth, ready to compost when you're done with it.
